Chromite Ore

Chromite is an Iron chromium oxide found naturally in the earth crust. It is by far the most industrially important mineral for the production of metallic chromium, used in the production of Stainless and Tool Steel. It is also used as a refractory material because of its high heat stability. The chromium extracted from chromite is used in Chrome plating & alloying for production of corrosion resistant super alloys. Chromium is also used as a pigment for glass, glazes & paints and as an oxidizing agent for tanning leather. The largest producers of Chrome ore are South Africa, India & Kazakhstan.
